Rick McLean has made keen strides in the two years between a debut EP and first full-length album, 2017’s Here’s Another Fine Mess. The vocal and guitar work sounds cleaner and weaves more intricately with the backup band of drummer Mike McLean and bassist Jacob Swanson. But the album still provides a raw playfulness that shines through. Clever, self-depreciating lyrics have progressed past the mirror’s edge and now include observations about a plethora of misfit characters, widening the album’s appeal. Duluth can officially add another fine songwriter to its stable of artists.
