Drummer Marcus Matthews aptly describes Puddle Wonderful as “the drunkest, sweatiest, fattest, hairiest, most endearing live local band” of the 1990s. The Superior foursome, who helped define the Twin Ports’ post-Nirvana music scene, will reunite for one night only at this year’s Homegrown. Matthews and guitarist Greg Conley shared songwriting and vocal duties in the group, which recorded a handful of tapes, CDs and demos before calling it quits, Sweetly Unnecessary being the most widely available. Band members, including bassist Bryon Gaynor and guitarist Aaron Ashley, have all stayed active in the local music scene in numerous bands including Batteries, the Surfactants and Sexhawk.
