Superior lives up to its name during Homegrown. From the Slamming Doors at the Spirit Room to Teague Alexy & Erik Berry at the Thirsty Pagan, it’ll be an impressive scene.
For the first time ever, a trolley will circle through Superior venues, helping to close the gap on the three-quarter mile stretch between the Cedar Lounge and the Main Club. Riders will be entertained by the likes of King J-Lar and Hanna Cesario from 8 to 10 p.m.
The Cedar Lounge, by the way, is making its Homegrown debut with a lineup of powerful performers. First up is Markus J. Dandy and the Complete Lack Thereof with his self-described avant-garde angry Americana. Next, glam rocker Venus de Mars performs a solo acoustic set. She hopes to have new songs ready that touch on the changing socio-political landscape, particularly from the trans-LGBTQ perspective.
“My usual love, or broken-love songs seem mundane and of no use,” says de Mars. “Suddenly we find ourselves now moving backward so stunningly fast … I am focused on not forgetting where we are and where we’ve come from with all of my art now — and especially with my performances.”
Appropriately enough, Nat Harvie finishes out the night at the Cedar. Post-glam subsequent to glam.
The biggest show of the night is at the Main Club, headlined by Dirty Horse and Big Wave Dave and the Ripples.
For those reluctant to cross into Cheeseland, Dan Dresser, Starling of Athens and the Fontanelles will be rocking the Reef.
